Carpet Repair That Blends In, Not Stands Out

Burns, bleach spots, split seams, pet damage and ripples don't mean you need new carpet. We repair the damaged area so it matches the rest of the room, usually in a single visit, and back the work with a Lifetime Labor Guarantee.

Real job: torn carpet patched

Repair first. Replace only when it truly makes sense

Most damaged carpet is still good carpet. The pile is fine, the pad is fine, and the room looks right except for one spot your eye keeps going to. Replacing a whole room because of a burn by the sofa or a chewed doorway costs thousands and takes days. A skilled repair costs a fraction of that, takes a few hours, and when it's done properly you have trouble finding where we worked.

Word of Mouth is a family-owned carpet repair company based in Tamarac. Repair and re-stretching are our core trade, not an add-on to a cleaning route. We carry power stretchers, seaming irons, heat-activated seam tape, cutters and transition hardware on every truck, so most problems are fixed the same day we see them.

What we repair

Holes, stains & bleach spots

Carpet patching replaces the damaged area with a matching piece, cut to follow the pile.

Burns

Burn repair removes melted fibers from irons, candles, curling irons and cigarettes.

Split seams & frayed edges

Seam and transition repair re-bonds seams and finishes edges at tile, wood and doorways.

Pet damage

Pet-damaged carpet repair rebuilds doorways and corners that dogs and cats have dug or chewed.

Ripples & wrinkles

Carpet re-stretching pulls loose carpet tight with a power stretcher and re-secures it.

Stairs & landings

Loose stair carpet, lifting nosings and worn treads re-secured or patched.

How a professional carpet repair is done

  1. We inspect the damage and the carpet around it

We check pile type, color, wear, pattern direction and whether the pad underneath is sound. This decides whether a patch, a seam repair, a stretch or a combination is right.

  2. We find matching carpet

The best donor carpet is your own: a saved remnant, or a piece from inside a closet or under a built-in where nobody will ever look. The closet area is then filled with a close match, so the visible room gets a perfect match.

  3. We cut out the damage cleanly

The damaged area is cut along the rows of the carpet backing, not in a random circle, so the new piece locks into the same lines as the surrounding pile.

  4. We install and bond the new piece

The patch goes in with the pile running the same direction as the room. Seams are bonded with heat-activated tape, and edges are sealed so they don't fray.

  5. We blend and check it

We brush and groom the pile across the seam, check it from several angles in normal light, and walk you through the result before we leave.

Repair or replace? An honest rule of thumb

Repair makes sense when the carpet is otherwise in decent shape and the damage is in a defined area: a few burns, a chewed doorway, a split seam, a stain that won't come out, or ripples from a poor install. It also makes sense when you're selling a home, ending a lease, or just not ready to spend on new flooring.

Replacement starts to make more sense when the whole room is worn through, the pad is breaking down everywhere, there's water damage across a large area, or the carpet is near the end of its life anyway. If that's the situation, we'll tell you. Patching carpet that should be replaced isn't good value for you, and our name depends on people recommending us.

Lifetime Labor Guarantee. If a seam, patch or stretch we completed lets go because of our workmanship, we come back and fix it at no labor cost. Read the guarantee.

Getting ready for your repair

  • Find your leftovers. If the installer left remnants in the garage or a closet, keep them handy. They're the best possible match.
  • Clear the immediate area. Move small items and anything fragile away from the damaged spot. We can shift standard furniture.
  • Think about the whole room. If you've also got ripples or a seam lifting, mention it. Doing everything in one visit costs less than separate trips.
  • Planning a cleaning too? Have the carpet cleaning done after the repair so the patched area and the rest of the room are refreshed together.

I hired Word of Mouth because of reviews I read online. I was not disappointed. Matt and Eric made an expert repair to my damaged wall-to-wall carpeting. I will be hiring this company again for further service. The person that I dealt with on the phone, Laura, was so courteous and friendly. I am a very pleased Customer

I finally found a company that actually knows how to work with berber carpet. They replaced an area that had a pull, cleaned a stain that I could not, and restretched an area where other companies had tried but failed. Do not hesitate to hire Word of Mouth Carpet Restorations. Their workers are extremely knowledgeable and professional!

FAQ

Carpet Repair questions

Will I be able to see the repair?

In most cases, no. We use matching carpet, keep the pile running the same direction, follow the rows of the backing and bond the seams with heat tape. Very old or sun-faded carpet can show a slight color difference, and if we think that's likely we'll tell you before we start.

What if I don't have any leftover carpet?

That's common. We usually take a donor piece from inside a closet or under a built-in, where it won't be seen, and fill that spot with the closest available match. The visible room keeps a true match.

How much does carpet repair cost?

Small patches and burn repairs typically run $75 to $150, pet-damage repairs $150 to $300, and larger repairs such as tears and split seams start at $150. Re-stretching is priced by room. Your exact price is confirmed at the free estimate.

How long does a carpet repair take?

Most repairs are finished in a single visit, and many take an hour or two. Larger jobs that combine patching, seam work and stretching can take longer, and we'll give you a time estimate along with the price.

Can you repair berber and patterned carpet?

Yes. Berber and patterned carpet take more care because the loops and pattern lines have to line up, but they can be repaired well. We cut along the rows so the new piece follows the same lines as the room.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes. Our Lifetime Labor Guarantee covers our workmanship on repairs and re-stretching. New damage, like a fresh burn or pet accident, is a new repair.
