Carpet repair & patching

How much does carpet repair cost?

Small patches and burn repairs typically run $75 to $150. Pet-damage repairs run $150 to $300, and larger repairs such as tears or split seams start at $150. Your exact price is confirmed at the free estimate before any work starts. See the price guide.

Will the patch show?

In most cases, no. For carpet patching we take replacement carpet from a hidden spot like a closet, match the pile direction, and bond it in with heat-activated seam tape so it blends with the carpet around it. Carpet that has faded unevenly can make a perfect match harder, and we'll tell you that up front.

Where does the replacement carpet come from if I have no remnant?

Usually from inside a closet or under a large piece of furniture that never moves, because that carpet has the same color and wear as the room. The closet is then filled with a close match where nobody will notice. Read more about carpet patching.

Can you repair berber carpet?

Yes. Berber is a loop carpet, so a pulled or snagged loop can run across the room if it isn't fixed. We re-set or replace the damaged loops, or patch the area if needed, so the run stops. See carpet repair for more on the repairs we do.

Can you fix carpet burns from irons or candles?

Yes. Burns melt synthetic fibers, so they can't be cleaned out. Tiny burns can be re-tufted, and larger ones are cut out and patched with matching carpet. Our carpet burn repair page explains the options and typical prices.

How long does a carpet repair take?

Most single repairs take an hour or two, and several repairs can usually be done in the same visit. Larger jobs that include re-stretching take longer, and we'll give you a time estimate when we quote.

Can you fix carpet that pets chewed or clawed?

Yes. Chewed doorways, scratched corners and pulled loops are some of the most common repairs we make. They're usually fixed with a matching patch, and doorways often get a new transition. See pet-damaged carpet repair.

Is repair worth it versus replacing the carpet?

Usually, yes. If the damage is limited to a few spots and the rest of the carpet looks good, a repair costs a fraction of new carpet and pad and is done in hours. If the carpet is worn out everywhere, replacement may be better value, and we'll tell you honestly.

Carpet re-stretching

What causes carpet ripples?

Most ripples come from carpet that wasn't stretched tight enough at installation, often with a knee kicker instead of a power stretcher. Heat, humidity, heavy furniture being dragged and age loosen it further. Re-stretching pulls it tight again and re-secures it.

How much does re-stretching cost per room?

Small rooms typically run $120 to $200, medium rooms $175 to $300, and large rooms $250 to $450. Several rooms in one visit typically run $450 to $800. The exact price is confirmed at the free estimate. See carpet stretching and the price guide.

What's the difference between a power stretcher and a knee kicker?

A knee kicker moves carpet a short distance and is used to hook it onto the tack strip along walls. A power stretcher braces against the opposite wall and stretches the carpet across the whole room, which is what keeps ripples from returning. We re-stretch with a power stretcher.

Do you move furniture for re-stretching?

Yes. Moving standard furniture is included with re-stretching. Please clear small items, electronics and anything fragile before we arrive, and let us know about very heavy pieces like pianos or large aquariums. More on our re-stretching service.

Can carpet on stairs be re-stretched?

Loose carpet on stairs can usually be re-secured and tightened, and loose stair carpet is a safety issue worth fixing quickly. We'll look at how it was installed at the estimate and explain what's needed. See carpet repair.

Will the ripples come back?

Not when the carpet is power-stretched and properly secured. That's why our re-stretching is covered by the Lifetime Labor Guarantee: if a stretch we completed loosens because of our workmanship, we come back and fix it at no labor cost.

Can you stretch carpet after impact windows, doors or flooring work?

Yes. Installers often pull carpet back along walls and sliders and don't re-stretch it properly, leaving ripples or loose edges. We re-stretch and re-secure it, and add or replace transitions where carpet meets new flooring.

Seams & transitions

Can you fix a split carpet seam?

Yes. We open the seam, trim the edges clean, and re-bond it with new heat-activated seam tape so it lies flat and nearly disappears. If loose carpet caused the split, we'll recommend re-stretching too. See carpet seam repair.

Can you fix frayed carpet at a doorway or tile edge?

Yes. Fraying usually means the carpet edge was never secured properly or the transition strip has failed. We trim and secure the edge and install a proper transition so it stays put. Read more on seam and transition repair.

Can you re-seam carpet after removing furniture or a wall?

Often, yes. When a built-in, island or wall comes out, we can fill the gap with matching carpet if it's available, seam it in and re-stretch the room so it looks continuous. Ask at the free estimate about seam repair.

Carpet cleaning

What carpet cleaning method do you use?

Hot-water extraction, often called steam cleaning. We pre-treat traffic lanes and spots, rinse the carpet with hot water, extract it with strong suction and groom the pile so it dries evenly. Learn more about carpet cleaning.

How long until carpet is dry after cleaning?

It depends on the carpet, humidity and airflow. Running the AC and ceiling fans speeds it up. Until it's dry, walk on it in clean socks and lay towels where people step onto tile or wood. More tips on our carpet cleaning page.

How often should carpet be cleaned in Florida?

Many homes do well with a professional cleaning once or twice a year. Homes with pets, kids or a lot of beach sand coming in may need more frequent carpet cleaning, especially in hallways and in front of sliders.

Will cleaning remove all stains?

Many stains come out, but not all. Bleach spots and stains that have dyed or removed the carpet's color can't be cleaned away. We tell you what to expect before starting, and carpet patching can replace spots that won't clean.

Is carpet cleaning safe for kids and pets?

We rinse and extract the carpet thoroughly so solution isn't left behind. Keep kids and pets off the carpet until it's dry. If you have pet accidents to treat, see pet stain removal.

Tile & grout

Can grout be cleaned back to its original color?

Often yes, or very close to it. How close depends on how long dirt has been building up and whether the grout is permanently stained. We tell you what to expect before starting. See tile and grout cleaning.

Is high-pressure cleaning safe for my tile?

Yes, for ceramic and porcelain tile and sound grout. We check for loose tile and cracked grout before cleaning and adjust the method to the floor. Read how our tile and grout cleaning works.

How often should tile and grout be cleaned?

Once or twice a year works for most homes. Kitchens, entryways and homes with pets or a pool often benefit from more frequent tile and grout cleaning. Mopping with clean water in between keeps grout from darkening.

What equipment do you use on tile and grout?

A tile spinner tool. It scrubs the tile and grout under a hood with high-pressure hot water and vacuums the dirty water away in the same pass, so the soil is removed instead of pushed deeper into the grout. See tile and grout cleaning.

Can you remove grout haze after installation?

Yes. We remove the cloudy grout haze left on new tile, along with dirt embedded in the textured grooves of wood-look tile, so the floor looks the way it should. More on tile and grout cleaning.

Upholstery, leather & mattresses

What fabrics can you clean?

Most upholstery fabrics, including cotton blends, microfiber, polyester and chenille. We check the manufacturer's cleaning code and test a hidden spot first, and we won't wet-clean fabric that isn't safe to clean that way. See upholstery cleaning.

How long until furniture is dry?

Upholstery is usually dry within a few hours, faster with the AC and a fan running. Keep pets and kids off it, and don't put colored throws on damp fabric. More on upholstery cleaning.

Can you clean leather sofas?

Yes. We identify the leather type, test a hidden area, clean with leather-specific products and condition it so it stays soft. Read about leather sofa cleaning.

Do you condition leather after cleaning?

Yes, for leathers that benefit from it. Conditioning restores moisture and helps protect the finish. It can't reverse cracks or worn color, which need restoration. See leather furniture cleaning.

How is a mattress cleaned?

In your home. We vacuum the top, sides and seams, pre-treat stains, then clean with low moisture and extract, so the mattress isn't soaked. Most can be slept on later the same day. See mattress cleaning.

Can you remove mattress stains and odors?

Sweat and spill stains usually lighten a lot, and odors can be treated. Very old yellow stains and large urine accidents that soaked deep into the foam may not disappear completely. We'll be honest at the mattress cleaning estimate.

Pet stains & odor

Will pet odor come back after treatment?

Not when the source is treated. Odor comes back when urine is left deep in the backing or pad and humidity re-activates it. We find every spot with a UV light, including ones you can't see, and treat each at the depth it needs. See pet odor removal.

How do you find hidden pet urine?

With a UV light. Dried urine glows under UV, so we can see old spots and how far each one spread, even when the carpet looks clean. Then we treat each spot at its source. See pet stain removal and pet odor removal.

Are your treatments safe for pets?

We use pet-stain and odor treatments made for homes with pets, and we rinse and extract them. Keep pets off treated areas until the carpet is dry. More on pet stain removal.

Should I clean or repair pet-damaged carpet?

Stains and odor are cleaned and treated. Chewed, clawed or color-damaged carpet is repaired. Many homes need both, and we check each area at the estimate. See pet stain removal and pet-damaged carpet repair.
